China to make cool-headed, sensible response to U.S. impulsive moves, anxiety: FM

Chinese mission says no foreign entities justified to interfere in China's local elections

Although Trump's actions could yield a short-term gain for the United States, they have introduced severe potential risks to U.S. interests, not to mention international and domestic rules of commerce, Wei said.

Noting that the situation in Hong Kong has improved markedly since the promulgation and enforcement of the law on safeguarding national security, the spokesperson said the Chinese government will remain firmly committed to the implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle, and resolutely oppose interference in Hong Kong affairs by any external forces.

"Resolving issues of common concern through dialogue is the only way to achieve win-win results," said the CSRC. "Only by doing so can a sound environment for the healthy and orderly operation of the global capital market be created."

"These have been the sources of China's economic boom and Cambodia is using China as a role model in our economic development as well," he said.

Noting that Hong Kong is China's special administrative region, a spokesperson for the mission said that the region's legislative council elections are China's local elections, and hence purely Hong Kong's internal affairs.

Reportedly, citing an order by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Lorenzana said the Philippines would not join navies of other countries in maritime drills in the South China Sea for fear of raising tension in the area.

"We have to see this within the context of a strategic and multilateral fight for dominance. Tomorrow, Washington can pick up another company related to China," he noted, adding the U.S. move is discriminatory.

"The Chinese people's legitimate rights to pursue national development and a better life should be respected," said Yang.

"First, the normalization of relations between our two countries and the growth of this relationship over the decades has served the interests of both countries and the world very well," he said. "It's quite clear that all of us are still enjoying the positive outcome, the benefits of the growth of this relationship. Nobody can really deny this."

Such disciplined and comprehensive approach stems from a system of governance designed to serve the long-term and fundamental interests of the people, rather than one that is exploited by a few politicians in some western countries for shortsighted goals and their own interests.
